Founder & Lead Trainer
Danny Wells founded Unleashed K9 after over 15 years working in dog training and canine behaviour. He's supplied trained working dogs to the police and prison service. He appeared on Channel 4's Death Row Dogs: Save My XL Bully, bringing his expertise on the breed to a national audience. He co-authored What Your Dog Is Thinking with neuroscientist Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, reviewed as 'Truly eye-opening' by The Times. He has won titles in UK domestic Protection Dog Trials and placed in Gun Dog Trials. His clients travel from across the UK and Europe. He specialises in the cases other trainers won't take.
Danny Wells isn't the trainer you go to first. He's the one you find after you've already tried two or three others and nothing has worked. That's not a marketing angle, it's the reality of what walks through the door at Unleashed K9 every week. The reactive dogs, the aggressive dogs, the dogs that other trainers have labelled "untrainable" or recommended for euthanasia. Danny's spent over 15 years working with exactly those cases, and he's built a reputation across Liverpool, St Helens, and the wider North West as the trainer who delivers when everyone else has failed.
What separates Danny from other dog trainers in Liverpool isn't just experience, it's range. He's trained police dogs, prison service dogs, and personal protection dogs to the highest operational standards. He's rehabilitated rescue dogs with severe behavioural issues. He's worked with first-time puppy owners who just want their dog to walk nicely on a lead. The ability to move between those extremes, from operational K9 work to nervous rescue dogs, requires a depth of understanding that most trainers simply don't have.

Danny appeared on Channel 4's Death Row Dogs: Save My XL Bully, where he demonstrated his approach to working with dogs that other professionals had given up on. He co-authored What Your Dog Is Thinking alongside neuroscientist Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, a book that was reviewed as "truly eye-opening" by The Times. Danny is also co-presenter of the Dog Scholar Podcast, one of the UK's leading dog behaviour podcasts, where he discusses his approach to transforming reactive and anxious dogs.
These aren't vanity projects. They reflect a trainer who understands canine behaviour at a level that goes beyond "sit, down, stay." Danny's competitive record includes titles at UK domestic Protection Dog Trials and placements in Gun Dog Trials, disciplines that demand precision, timing, and a genuine understanding of drive, motivation, and handler-dog communication.
If your dog is reactive on the lead, aggressive towards other dogs, anxious, fearful, or displaying any form of problematic behaviour, this is Danny's bread and butter. Behaviour modification at Unleashed K9 starts with understanding what's driving the behaviour. Not suppressing it, not managing it, not hoping it goes away. Understanding it, then changing it at the root.
Reactive dog training is one of the most common reasons clients find Unleashed K9. Danny's approach isn't cookie-cutter, because reactivity isn't one thing. A dog that lunges at other dogs out of fear is fundamentally different from a dog that lunges out of frustration. The training has to match the cause, and Danny has the diagnostic ability to identify the right approach from the very first session.
Danny and the Unleashed K9 team are based at Brandreth House Farm, East Lancashire Road, St Helens, purpose-built for dog training with space, facilities, and the right environment to work with any dog, any issue. Clients come from Liverpool, St Helens, Warrington, Wigan, Widnes, and across the North West. Some travel from further afield, Danny has worked with clients from across the UK and Europe for the more specialist services.
Every client starts with an Initial Assessment. That first session is where Danny sees your dog as they actually are, identifies the root cause of whatever you're dealing with, and puts together a training plan that addresses it directly. If you don't see an improvement in that first session, you don't pay. That guarantee has been in place since day one, and it's never been a problem.
Danny delivers the following training programmes at Unleashed K9:
